Saudi Arabia Advances Mobile Connectivity with Remote SIM Provisioning Platform

Saudi Arabia is enhancing its mobile connectivity with the successful deployment of a Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) platform. Mobily, a Saudi telco, has partnered with Brazilian identity solutions company Valid to implement Valid’s Over-the-Air (OTA) platform. This collaboration allows Mobily to remotely manage subscribers’ SIM and eSIM profiles with greater efficiency.

The new solution will provide Mobily’s subscribers with a smoother network experience, faster profile switching, and improved security. Valid’s Remote SIM Provisioning technology enables users to activate and manage their eSIM profiles without needing to visit physical stores, further streamlining the user experience. Additionally, Valid’s technology supports not only consumer smartphones but also IoT devices and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, adding flexibility to the platform.

Salvador Cabrera, COO at Valid, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership with Mobily is a milestone for Valid, showcasing our ability to deliver on-premises deployments of both Remote SIM Provisioning and OTA platforms.”

In other global mobile connectivity developments, Thailand and India are taking measures to enhance security through SIM registration and biometric verification systems. Thailand, dealing with the rise of call center gangs, is implementing a biometric authentication system for SIM card registration. This would restrict foreign SIM card registrations to three per person and introduce facial biometric verification for large mobile banking transactions to combat fraud.

Similarly, India is implementing a security framework proposed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), which aims to link trading accounts with SIM cards and mandate biometric authentication for trading application logins. These efforts aim to address the increasing threats of hacking and SIM card spoofing in mobile trading platforms.

India is also tackling telecom fraud by introducing a Digital Integrated Verification System (DIVS) for SIM card registrations, making Aadhaar-based biometric verification mandatory for new mobile connections and monitoring the number of SIM cards issued under each customer’s name.

These steps in Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and India reflect global trends towards strengthening security and streamlining mobile connectivity through advanced technologies such as Remote SIM Provisioning and biometric verification.
