UAE-based Pure Harvest Smart Farms and Korea’s PlanTFarm have unveiled a redeveloped high-tech farming facility in Al Ain, UAE. This innovative site utilizes AI-powered technologies for controlled environment agriculture (CEA), marking a significant step toward enhancing food security and reducing reliance on imports in the Gulf region.
The facility features a pilot project focused on growing animal fodder with 95% less water, addressing the region’s food security challenges while minimizing resource consumption. Additionally, hybrid technology is used to grow local crops, such as Korean strawberries and leafy greens, year-round, ensuring a consistent and sustainable food supply.
Announced in December 2023, the partnership integrates vertical farming and greenhouses to further strengthen food security in the UAE, showcasing the potential of advanced agricultural technologies to reduce the environmental impact of farming and increase efficiency. This collaboration between Pure Harvest and PlanTFarm underscores the importance of innovation in addressing the region’s growing food demands with minimal resource usage.
