The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) held a seminar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology and E-Sports on February 22, at its headquarters in Kuwait City. The event brought together global experts to explore how AI is revolutionizing athlete training and performance and how e-sports is becoming a central component of the Asian Games and global sports.
OCA Director of Media and Broadcast, Jeans Zhou Jian, expressed gratitude to delegates from National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and e-sports federations for their participation. The seminar examined various aspects of AI’s role in sports, focusing on its applications in athlete performance and its increasing integration into competitive gaming.
Presentations included insights on AI’s use in enhancing athlete performance by Ray Walia, CEO of OpenSport, and Guy Millar, CTO, as well as a discussion on the impact of AI in sports by Leo Tang Xiaowei from Ant Group. Highlights also included a case study on AI in swimming and presentations on virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications in sports by Dr. Xiaotian Yan and Alexander Schmidt.
E-sports’ rapid evolution was emphasized, with Aaron Liu of the Jakarta Asian Games E-Sports demonstration event noting the sector’s global reach of 3.42 billion players. Tencent’s Kat Gong outlined how e-sports was integrated into the Hangzhou Asian Games, where the company owned four of the seven contested titles.
The seminar concluded with a certificate presentation, recognizing the contributions of all speakers in advancing AI and e-sports in the sports industry.
