Orange and Telesat Forge Strategic Partnership for Advanced Satellite Connectivity

Orange and Telesat have entered into a strategic commercial partnership to enhance satellite connectivity solutions for businesses and telecom operators. The collaboration will integrate Telesat Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) service into Orange Wholesale’s global portfolio, expanding their offerings for secure, low-latency connectivity.

Under the agreement, Telesat Lightspeed’s Landing Station will be hosted at Orange’s teleport in Bercenay-en-Othe, France, providing ground segment connectivity through Orange Wholesale International Private Line (IPL) with a point of presence (PoP) in Paris. Orange has also committed to a capacity purchase from Telesat Lightspeed, marking the beginning of their collaboration in the satellite connectivity space.

Emmanuel Rochas, CEO of Orange Wholesale International, expressed his excitement, saying, “We are honored that Telesat has selected our Bercenay-en-Othe Teleport as the first European gateway for their Telesat Lightspeed network. This partnership underscores the expertise of Orange Wholesale as a space network operator and demonstrates our ability to provide world-class infrastructure for advanced satellite constellations. We look forward to expanding our connectivity solutions with Telesat Lightspeed, enhancing network resilience for mobile backhauling, crisis response, and remote connectivity.”

Glenn Katz, Chief Commercial Officer at Telesat, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “This strategic collaboration highlights our commitment to resilient connectivity solutions via our integrated space and terrestrial infrastructure. We’re pleased that Telesat Lightspeed will improve connectivity in remote areas for Orange’s customers in Europe, Africa, and beyond. We are proud to have Orange, one of the largest global telcos, as a strategic partner for Telesat Lightspeed.”

The Telesat Lightspeed Carrier Ethernet services will provide reliable, enterprise-grade connectivity, backed by service level agreements. Telecom operators will have the ability to configure and monitor services in real-time, ensuring flexibility and performance without requiring satellite operator intervention. The resilient network features a Zero-Trust Security Architecture in alignment with the latest security standards.

With ground stations in 26 countries, Orange’s Bercenay-en-Othe WTA Tier-4 certified Teleport will play a critical role in delivering secure and seamless connectivity solutions. This partnership strengthens Orange’s capability to serve underserved regions, offering a new, reliable satellite solution to complement its existing multi-orbit satellite partnerships.

Combining Telesat’s advanced satellite technology with Orange’s decades of expertise in providing gateway and connectivity services, this collaboration further enhances the resilience of global digital infrastructure and drives digital inclusion in the most remote areas.
