Nepal Telecommunications Authority Warns Against Using Signal Boosters for Indian Mobile Services

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) issued a warning on March 30, 2025, against the use of signal boosters to access Indian mobile services within Nepal. The authority stated that such practices violate Nepal’s telecommunications regulations and warned of legal actions against those involved.

Signal boosters, which enhance mobile signal strength and improve call quality, are often used in areas with poor mobile reception, such as basements, homes, and vehicles. In border areas of Nepal, these devices have been used to access Indian mobile services. However, using signal boosters to boost foreign (Indian) telecom services in Nepal is illegal under the country’s telecommunications policies.

The NTA emphasized that the use of these devices violates Section 3 of the Radio Act, 2014, and Section 21 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053. The authority stated that it would take strict action against individuals or groups caught using signal boosters for accessing Indian mobile networks in Nepal.

The NTA urged the public to refrain from engaging in such activities and assured that it would continue monitoring compliance with Nepal’s telecom regulations.
