SITA, a leader in air transport technology, and NEC Corporation, known for its biometric authentication solutions, have signed a partnership agreement to accelerate the adoption of digital identity technology in the travel industry. NEC will join SITA’s Digital Travel Ecosystem, an open framework that facilitates real-time digital identity verification.
The collaboration aims to streamline adoption for airports, airlines, and governments by simplifying integrations between issuers and verifiers. With increasing demand for biometric identity management solutions—28% of airlines and 43% of airports planning to implement them within the next year—the SITA-NEC partnership addresses interoperability challenges and supports secure identity exchange.
Jeremy Springall, Senior Vice President of Borders at SITA, emphasized the growing potential of digital identities and the industry’s readiness to scale. With NEC’s biometric expertise and SITA’s widespread presence of biometric touchpoints, the collaboration is set to transform digital travel experiences worldwide.
Nanaumi Nagamine, Senior Director of the DID Department at NEC, noted that the partnership would accelerate global adoption, providing passengers with seamless, secure travel experiences. By improving security, reducing bottlenecks, and enhancing the passenger journey, the SITA-NEC collaboration sets a new standard for trusted digital identities in travel.
