Private telecom operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have published their 5G, 4G, and 2G network coverage maps, in compliance with a directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). However, public sector telecom companies BSNL and MTNL have yet to release their coverage maps.
Trai’s revised regulations on service quality norms, issued in August 2024, require telecom operators to display geospatial coverage maps on their websites, indicating where wireless voice and broadband services are available for consumers. The aim of this move is to enhance transparency and provide mobile subscribers with better information on service availability.
In a statement, Trai emphasized that this step will empower consumers by offering clear insights into the service coverage across different regions. While private telecom operators have met the deadline, BSNL and MTNL have not yet complied with the regulation, which was due by April 1.
