The inaugural meeting of the Embedded Artificial Intelligence Focus Group, part of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), took place in Istanbul, hosted by Turkcell. The event saw participation from over 100 industry experts and representatives, including Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), and Seizo Onoe, Director of the ITU Standardization Bureau.
Turkcell’s General Manager, Dr. Ali Taha Koç, delivered the opening speech, emphasizing that hosting the event aligns with Turkcell’s mission to lead digital transformation both in Türkiye and globally. “This event reflects our vision of driving the digital transformation forward, not just within Turkey but on a global scale,” said Koç.
The meeting focused on AI-Native Networks, with workshops on AI-driven telecommunication networks also held during the summit. Dr. Koç highlighted the integration of AI into telecommunication networks as key to creating smarter, more efficient infrastructures. He emphasized the importance of autonomous decision-making capabilities and near-zero latency in the networks of the future, which will become the standard for global telecommunications.
Seizo Onoe, Director of ITU’s Telecommunications Standardization Bureau, underscored the importance of international collaboration in developing AI applications for network infrastructure. “For this transformation to be successful, international standards must be established through cooperation among all stakeholders. The work being done in the ITU’s Artificial Intelligence – Local Area Networks Focus Group will be crucial in shaping the networks of the future,” Onoe said.
This gathering marks a significant step toward shaping the future of telecommunication networks, with Türkiye playing a key role in these global discussions.
