e& UAE Launches Autonomous Drone-Based Telecom Tower Inspections Powered by AI

e& UAE has launched an autonomous drone-based telecom tower inspection system powered by AI, marking a significant advancement in telecom infrastructure management and operational safety. This new initiative leverages real-time data analytics, AI, and autonomous flight capabilities to enable faster, safer, and more sustainable inspections across the UAE.

The launch follows the inauguration of the Drones Operations Centre, a collaboration with the UAE Cyber Security Council and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), aimed at advancing unmanned traffic management (UTM) and integrating drones into the national digital infrastructure.

The autonomous drones, controlled remotely from the Drones Operations Centre, enhance the efficiency and safety of tower inspections. Each flight is tracked in real-time by expert teams who monitor flight progress, ensure safety, and verify the accuracy of inspections. Unlike traditional methods, drones can navigate complex environments autonomously, reducing the need for human involvement in hazardous tasks. The drones also play a crucial role in emergency response, providing critical aid and connectivity in hard-to-reach areas.

Through AI-powered analytics, the drones can detect structural anomalies in real-time during inspections, enabling a proactive maintenance approach that minimizes costly disruptions and prolongs asset lifespans. Additionally, the drones assist in remotely monitoring safety procedures and surveillance, helping to prevent unauthorized activities and ensure a secure network environment.

Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology & Information Officer at e& UAE, emphasized, “The integration of autonomous drones into our operations reflects our commitment to innovating network operations, improving safety, and enhancing sustainability. Through AI-powered insights and real-time control, we are elevating the safety and accuracy of telecom tower inspections, enabling data-driven decisions that support the UAE’s vision for smart, sustainable cities.”
