Morocco Takes Major Steps in Digital Healthcare Transformation at GITEX Africa 2025

Morocco has announced significant advancements in its healthcare system through two major digital initiatives unveiled at GITEX Africa 2025 in Marrakech, positioning the country as a leader in digital health transformation in Africa.

The first key development is a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Health and la Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), Morocco’s sovereign investment fund. The agreement focuses on leveraging CDG’s technical expertise to develop and implement digital systems, improve service delivery, and enhance governance in Morocco’s health information ecosystem. Khalid Safir, Director General of CDG, stated, “We are making our technical expertise available to the Ministry to enhance healthcare services while ensuring stringent data security standards.”

The partnership outlines several strategic priorities, including the establishment of a digital innovation lab within the Ministry of Health, the development of customized digital healthcare solutions, and the deployment of specialized human resources. The Minister of Health emphasized that the collaboration enables them to implement digital sector methods to build a more efficient and smarter healthcare system.

In a parallel move, the Ministry of Health signed another agreement with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health, along with GITEX Africa organizers, to launch GITEX Future Health Morocco Africa. This specialized event, scheduled for April 2026 in Casablanca, will focus on e-health and biotechnology. The initiative aims to establish Morocco as a regional hub for health innovation, scientific exchange, and investment in medical technology.

Both initiatives align with King Mohammed VI’s vision for structural reforms in Morocco’s healthcare sector. These agreements signal a major shift in how healthcare will be delivered, governed, and evolved across the country, with the potential to position Morocco as a leader in digital health across Africa.
