The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) has teamed up with Invita to launch Nasmaakum, an innovative sign language mobile application designed to enhance accessibility for individuals with hearing and speech impairments in Bahrain. This partnership aims to bridge communication gaps, empowering businesses and individuals to connect with the hearing-impaired community.
Nasmaakum will enable Tamkeen to effectively communicate with customers who have hearing and speech impairments, ensuring they can access Tamkeen’s services and support. The initiative aligns with Bahrain’s broader commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, setting new standards for communication in both the public and private sectors.
Esam Hammad, Executive Director of Customer Experience at Tamkeen, expressed pride in the initiative, highlighting its role in fostering innovation, inclusivity, and economic growth. He emphasized that the partnership with Nasmaakum reflects Tamkeen’s mission to provide equal opportunities for all members of society, including those with impairments.
Rahul Bhalla, Chief Executive of Invita, echoed these sentiments, stressing that Nasmaakum not only empowers individuals with impairments but also sets a new benchmark for inclusivity. The partnership further reinforces Bahrain’s goal of creating a more inclusive society, where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal access to opportunities.
This collaboration also supports Bahrain’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, by ensuring that individuals with hearing impairments can access services and communicate effectively. Nasmaakum is expected to grow its reach across Bahrain, helping businesses adopt this transformative technology and positioning the country as a regional leader in accessibility and inclusion.
