Société Générale Maroc, a leading financial institution with over a century of legacy in Morocco, has embarked on a major digital transformation in collaboration with IBM and Power Maroc. The bank is moving from monolithic applications to a modern, microservices-based architecture to enhance operational efficiency, security, and digital banking services.
As Morocco continues to digitize, customer expectations for seamless and swift digital experiences have increased. In response, Société Générale Maroc recognized the need to modernize its IT infrastructure to support open banking initiatives and foster innovation. While its monolithic systems were reliable, they faced challenges in scalability and integration with third-party services, impeding the bank’s ability to quickly deploy new digital offerings.
To build a sustainable infrastructure, it is crucial to avoid relying on fragile systems. IBM Cloud Pak, known for its resilience and modularity, serves as a foundation for this transformation, offering enhanced security, optimized performance, and opportunities for innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence. With the support of IBM and Power Maroc, Société Générale Maroc is positioning itself as a forward-thinking institution, prepared for future growth.
In collaboration with IBM Expert Labs, Power Maroc conducted an in-depth analysis of the bank’s applications. The first phase focused on improving core performance and security. Upgrades to IBM Guardium and IBM MQ were implemented to safeguard sensitive data and ensure messaging availability, even during peak times. IBM Instana was deployed to provide the IT team with improved observability across the infrastructure, enabling proactive issue resolution.
Building on this foundation, Société Générale Maroc is advancing its modernization by deploying IBM Cloud Pak for Integration and IBM Cloud Pak for Applications. The bank is also adopting Power Maroc’s containerization platform, rKube, based on IBM Red Hat OpenShift. This integration will streamline services, foster innovation, and reinforce the bank’s leadership in Morocco’s banking sector.
“Technological solutions, in collaboration with Société Générale Maroc and IBM, are not just about solving technical problems but about unlocking new business opportunities,” said Walid Largou, CTO of Power Maroc.
This transformation aligns with global banking trends that emphasize digitization to reshape operations and drive innovation. According to IBM’s 2025 Global Outlook for Banking and Financial Markets, embracing end-to-end digitization is critical for banks to meet client demands and capitalize on AI-led innovations.
“We are excited to support Société Générale Maroc in its journey to modernize its banking infrastructure. With IBM’s advanced technologies and the expertise of Power Maroc, the bank is well-positioned to meet evolving customer needs and lead innovation in Morocco’s financial sector,” said Mimoun Ouchaou, General Manager and Technology Leader at IBM Morocco.
Through these modernization efforts, Société Générale Maroc is set to offer enhanced digital services, strengthen customer engagement, and solidify its position as a leader in Morocco’s banking industry.
