Over the past five years, Egypt has seen a surge in capital investment, driving numerous large-scale infrastructure projects and contributing to a positive economic outlook with a predicted GDP growth of 4.7% for 2025-2026. This economic growth has been accompanied by internal and external investments, such as the construction of a new city, and a stable political environment in contrast to neighboring regions. However, despite this growth, the country’s AV (audiovisual) sector has faced challenges, primarily due to the fluctuating economy and the effects of currency devaluation.
Hisham Allam, CEO of Egyptian Micro Solutions (EMS), highlighted that while Egypt’s economy is the second largest in Africa, its AV sector is still in development. Although the market has experienced steady growth over the last five to six years, it remains less mature compared to the Gulf countries. Mohammed Attia, managing director of Quality Egypt, pointed out that Egypt’s economic positioning offers significant potential for the AV industry, particularly in education, transportation, and visitor experiences.
The rise in digital adoption and foreign investments in Egypt is expected to drive demand for AV systems in sectors like business, education, and entertainment. Tarek Harby, AV department manager at Tatas AV Solutions, noted that ongoing infrastructure projects and increased internet penetration in Egypt are contributing to the AV market’s growth. Significant projects such as the construction of the new administrative capital and 12 new cities are providing opportunities for AV integration.
However, while the past two to three years were positive for the AV sector due to projects in the new capital and military complexes, Allam warned that geopolitical tensions in neighboring countries and new tariffs could impact the future growth of the AV industry in Egypt. Attia believes that while infrastructure projects may be slowing down, sectors such as hospitality, culture, and heritage are becoming more active, with new hotels, museums, and airports under construction.
Egypt’s “Vision 2030” and “Digital Egypt” initiatives aim to modernize the country and promote a digital economy, which could provide a long-term boost to the AV sector. However, some experts remain cautious about the influence of Vision 2030 on the AV market, citing global market stability and investor confidence as key factors for success.
Despite these challenges, the Egyptian AV sector is showing promise, especially with ongoing efforts to build smart cities and digitize government services. The hospitality and cultural heritage sectors are becoming more prominent, signaling growth opportunities for AV companies. However, local AV firms face competition from foreign integrators, logistical challenges due to complex regulations, and the difficulties of retaining skilled talent due to salary discrepancies with Gulf countries.
As Egypt pushes forward with its digital and infrastructural modernization, its AV market may continue to face hurdles but could ultimately benefit from the government’s ambitious plans for the country’s technological advancement and digital infrastructure.
