Ghana’s Minister of Health Launches Digital Admissions Portal for Health Training Institutions

Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Ghana’s Minister of Health, has introduced a new digital admissions portal for health training institutions, simplifying the application process and reducing costs for prospective students. The initiative eliminates the need for applicants to purchase access codes from banks, a process that previously involved significant travel and added expenses, especially for rural residents.

“We wanted to reduce the hassle for applicants. It often cost between GH¢50 to 100 just to deposit GH¢200, which was unreasonable in the digital age,” Mr. Akandoh stated.

Under the new system, applicants can directly access the portal after making an online payment of GH¢150, which is a 25% reduction from last year’s application fee of GH¢200. The system automatically generates an access code upon payment, though the Minister advised applicants to check the eligibility criteria on the portal before making any payments.

The eligibility procedure on the portal ensures that applicants are aware of the requirements they must meet before proceeding to pay. Additionally, a 24-hour call centre has been established to assist applicants who encounter issues with the new system.

The application process, which began on May 5, 2025, will close on June 5, 2025. “Now, applicants can apply from the comfort of their homes, paying online, receiving an access code, and submitting their applications without needing to travel,” Mr. Akandoh emphasized.

He also warned the public against paying individuals claiming to sell access codes, as such practices are no longer part of the new system.

Following the application period, training institutions will carry out selection processes and interviews before issuing admission letters to successful candidates. The Minister assured that his office would continue to monitor the system’s implementation and make further improvements if necessary.
