Morocco Rises to 88th Globally, Ranking 9th in Africa’s Startup Ecosystems in 2025

Morocco has climbed to 88th place in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2025, making it the 9th-ranked startup ecosystem in Africa, driven by strong growth in Casablanca and Rabat. The annual StartupBlink report evaluates over 1,000 cities and 100 countries worldwide based on startup vibrancy and strength.

Morocco improved four spots from 92nd last year, with a score of 0.687 and the highest growth rate (23%) among North African countries. Regionally, it ranks 3rd in North Africa behind Egypt (65th) and Tunisia (82nd). Across Africa, Morocco stands ahead of Senegal but behind South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Ghana, and Namibia. Globally, the top ecosystems remain the US, UK, Israel, Singapore, and Canada.

Casablanca, the country’s leading startup hub, soared 42 places to 317th globally with a growth rate exceeding 40%, the highest in North Africa. Rabat rose seven places to 811th with over 20% growth, while Agadir faces potential exclusion from the top 1,000 due to negative trends.

Morocco’s appeal is attributed to its affordable, stable base for entrepreneurs accessing the North African market, bolstered by initiatives like MoroccoTech, the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, and GITEX Africa. Key capital funds such as UM6P Ventures, Maroc Numeric Fund, and Innov Invest Fund support early-stage startups, while organizations like StartUp Maroc and innovation hubs like Impact Lab foster ecosystem dynamism.

However, the report highlights ongoing challenges including startup funding gaps and regulatory framework improvements.
