Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman has successfully completed the first phase of a collaborative national initiative involving the government, TRA, and telecom licensees to enhance telecommunications services in underdeveloped geographic locations, known as Comprehensive Service Areas.
This initiative aims to improve service quality in regions facing infrastructure and coverage limitations. It leverages cost savings generated by postponing royalty rate increases, which are normally applied when converting telecommunication stations from satellite technology to fiber optics. This shift is expected to boost the performance of telecom towers, providing users with a more reliable and stable connection experience.
Additionally, the initiative creates new opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to establish businesses and deliver telecom-related services such as maintenance and project management within these underserved areas.
By facilitating these projects, the initiative is set to generate direct and indirect employment, fostering economic growth and development in Comprehensive Service Areas.
