Oman’s Environment Authority Launches ‘Naqi’ App for Real-Time Air Quality Monitoring

Muscat – Oman’s Environment Authority (EA) has introduced a new mobile application named Naqi, aimed at boosting environmental awareness and public health by providing real-time air quality updates across the country. The app was officially launched on Monday ahead of World Environment Day on June 5.

Available on both iOS and Android platforms in Arabic and English, Naqi offers a user-friendly experience alongside advanced features that empower residents, commuters, and health-conscious individuals to track air quality accurately. The app is also accessible via web browsers, making it widely available across digital devices.

A key highlight of Naqi is its interactive map displaying live air quality metrics based on users’ locations. It delivers detailed reports on critical pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide, among others.

To help users make well-informed decisions, Naqi employs a simple colour-coded alert system ranging from green (good air quality) to red (hazardous conditions). This intuitive visual guide ensures easy understanding for users of all ages.

Besides pollution data, the app integrates real-time weather information to provide a comprehensive view of environmental conditions. This dual feature enhances daily planning, especially for individuals with respiratory issues, outdoor workers, and athletes.

The launch of Naqi aligns with Oman’s national initiatives for digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and the goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040. Environment Authority officials emphasized the app’s vital role in raising awareness and offering reliable, up-to-date information to improve citizens’ quality of life.

As air quality becomes an increasingly crucial factor for public health, particularly in urban centres like Muscat, Naqi represents a forward-looking step in Oman’s environmental monitoring efforts.
