Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, welcomed Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Transport, for discussions aimed at boosting economic and investment cooperation between the two countries. The meeting focused on sharing technical expertise and expanding collaboration in land transport, railways, maritime navigation, and civil aviation.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. They emphasized enhancing connectivity by land, sea, and air, advancing logistics services, and supporting joint projects that align with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) development goals.
Key initiatives reviewed included the proposed 40-kilometer Bahrain–Qatar Causeway and a joint maritime linkage project, aimed at promoting sustainable development, facilitating trade, tourism, and logistics, improving supply chain efficiency, attracting investment, and creating job opportunities. These projects are intended to strengthen economic and cultural bonds and support GCC economic integration alongside the upcoming GCC railway network expected by 2030.
The ministers agreed to accelerate project implementation, develop related infrastructure, and establish joint working groups to oversee progress following global best practices. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla affirmed Bahrain’s readiness to facilitate these connectivity projects, which align with the Kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030.
Minister Al Thani expressed Qatar’s pride in the strong bilateral relations and commitment to enhancing cooperation in transportation, ports, logistics, and digital innovation. He highlighted the importance of these projects in fostering Gulf economic unity.
The visit concluded with a tour of Bu Maher Fort by sea and a visit to the Manama Post Museum, celebrating Bahrain’s heritage in postal and telecommunications development.
