Pakistan Manufactures Over 131 Million Mobile Phones, Boosting Job Creation and Local Industry

Between January 2019 and March 2025, Pakistan produced approximately 131.26 million mobile phones, including 51.07 million smartphones, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

This significant manufacturing scale has generated numerous job opportunities across the country, highlighting the sector’s growing economic impact.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been instrumental in attracting foreign investment to the mobile phone manufacturing industry. In 2021, PTA introduced the Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Regulations, which facilitated the establishment of local production facilities.

To date, 36 companies—including local firms, international players, and joint ventures—have received 10-year MDM licenses to manufacture mobile devices in Pakistan. This development strengthens Pakistan’s position in the global mobile phone market and supports its industrial growth ambitions.
