The Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) unveiled Jordan’s first digital platform dedicated to industrial waste exchange, marking a significant advance in promoting circular economy practices and sustainability within the country’s industrial sector. The launch was supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) under the “Green Activities in Industrial Facilities” project funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Fathi Jaghbir, President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, highlighted that the platform transforms environmental challenges into economic opportunities by enabling factories to exchange reusable waste as raw materials, thus reducing waste generation, cutting costs, and fostering cross-sector partnerships.
Jihad Alswaier, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, emphasized that transitioning to a green and circular economy is a strategic necessity for Jordan. He praised the platform for redefining industrial waste from “worthless” to “recoverable” resources through sustainable government-industry collaboration.
The “Industrial Waste Exchange” platform allows enterprises to list non-hazardous waste from production processes and connect with other industries that can repurpose it as raw materials. This digital tool aims to enhance industrial cooperation, generate economic benefits, lower waste disposal expenses, and reduce environmental impacts while stimulating recycling innovation within a circular economy framework.
