Morocco-based Vantage Payment Systems (VPS) has entered a strategic collaboration with Mastercard to enhance digital payments and financial inclusion across Morocco. The partnership aims to expand Mastercard-branded card offerings across various sectors and integrate Mastercard’s solutions into local e-commerce and in-app payment ecosystems. By leveraging VPS’s established infrastructure and merchant network, Mastercard plans to deepen its footprint in the North African market.
In return, VPS gains brand credibility and access to Mastercard’s advanced cybersecurity and fraud detection technologies. A key joint initiative includes launching a blockchain-based tokenization product alongside support for digital wallets, aligning Morocco’s fintech landscape with global best practices.
VPS President Ali Bettahi described the partnership as a milestone in transforming Morocco’s payment ecosystem, facilitating seamless transactions for merchants and consumers through expanded digital and physical payment options.
Morocco’s digital payment landscape is evolving rapidly, with ongoing regulatory shifts including moves to lift the country’s longstanding digital currency ban. This aligns with broader trends across Africa, where digital payments are expected to surge to $1.5 trillion by 2030, though fraud risks remain a concern.
