The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has mandated that all internet service providers (ISPs) must issue receipts to customers upon bill payment to enhance transparency and accountability in consumer services. This directive follows complaints about some ISPs failing to provide payment receipts.
BTRC’s Enforcement and Inspection Division issued a notice requiring receipts to clearly display the customer’s name, ID, payment amount, package details, date, and the ISP’s official seal and signature. Receipts may be issued manually or digitally, but ISPs must retain copies for record-keeping.
To further strengthen oversight, BTRC introduced a standardized format for maintaining detailed billing records, including customer IDs, package details, prices, and billing months. The regulator warned that periodic inspections will be conducted, and non-compliant ISPs may face regulatory penalties.
These measures aim to promote good governance and ensure consumer trust in Bangladesh’s internet services sector.
