Algeria Climbs 15 Spots in Global ICT Development Rankings, Surpassing Regional and Income Group Averages

The International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) latest ICT Development Index (IDI), released in June 2025, reveals a significant advancement for Algeria, which now ranks 74th globally—an improvement of 15 places from its 2024 position at 89th.

Algeria scored 86.1 points on the index, outperforming the global average of 78 points, as well as regional averages for the Arab world (77.6), Africa (56.1), and the upper-middle-income country group (81.1). This surge highlights Algeria’s growing prowess and commitment in expanding its digital infrastructure and connectivity.

The ICT Development Index is recognized as the premier global benchmark for measuring ICT progress, evaluating countries on two pillars: Universal Connectivity—gauging internet access among households and individuals—and Meaningful Connectivity—assessing effective, affordable internet use across sectors.

Algeria’s leap in rankings reflects dedicated efforts under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership to broaden access to ICT tools and services nationwide, ensuring inclusivity regardless of geographic location.
