MTN South Sudan Launches Service in Abuyong Payam with Plans for Network Expansion

MTN South Sudan has launched its network service in Abuyong Payam, Lakes State, supported by the government’s Universal Service and Access Fund (USAF). Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, announced the launch on Facebook, highlighting plans to extend service to Cuebet in Lakes and Greater Pibor to address local security challenges.

The MTN network in Abuyong Payam aims to facilitate cash transfers between Juba and Lakes, and improve education and health services. However, coverage currently extends only about 5 kilometers, prompting Paul Chabiet, Lakes State Minister of Information, to urge the ICT ministry to expedite network expansion.

USAF Secretary General Mabe Emmanuel confirmed plans to deploy additional towers to enhance connectivity in the region. MTN CEO Mapula Bodibe committed to collaborating with USAF to strengthen network coverage and ensure uninterrupted service.
