Saudi Arabia Unveils New Identity and Master Plan for Key Airports in Eastern Province

Saudi Arabia has announced a new identity and comprehensive master plan for three major airports in the kingdom’s Eastern Province: King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) in Dammam, Al Ahsa International Airport, and Qaisumah International Airport, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Eastern Province Governor Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz revealed that the master plan is part of a strategic vision to significantly boost KFIA’s capacity to handle over 19.3 million passengers annually by 2030. The plan also targets increasing air cargo capacity to more than 600,000 tonnes per year—a tenfold growth.

Prince Saud also launched the airports’ new strategy, inaugurated electronic gates to expedite passenger processing, and unveiled integrated development projects worth over SAR 1.6 billion ($426 million). The package comprises 77 projects focused on upgrading infrastructure and enhancing passenger experience.

Highlights include the airport’s largest-ever expansion, designed to raise operational capacity to 77 aircraft movements per hour and boost annual passenger throughput to 32 million. The master plan features a comprehensive upgrade of general aviation facilities and infrastructure improvements to meet global operational standards.

These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 ambitions for Dammam airports to evolve into a regional logistics hub. Passenger traffic at the airports has already increased by 35% by the end of 2024 compared to 2022.
