Muscat – Mobile service subscriptions in Oman reached 8,130,355, exceeding the country’s population of 5,315,155, with an average of 1.53 subscriptions per person, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The telecommunications sector is witnessing robust growth, driven by expanding digital services and adoption of smart technologies. Active postpaid subscriptions rose 5.6% year-on-year to 1,239,509 by May 2025, while prepaid subscriptions increased 3.1% to 5,335,847. Internet of Things (IoT) subscriptions showed the highest growth, soaring 118.7% to 1,554,999.
Overall mobile subscriptions grew 15.2% compared to May 2024. Mobile broadband subscriptions totaled 5,414,124. Fixed broadband services increased 2.6% to 588,015, with fibre optic connections growing 11.4% to 339,279 and fixed 5G subscriptions rising 2.1% to 215,850.
Conversely, fixed 4G subscriptions declined 38.1% to 19,654, DSL subscriptions dropped 50.8% to 11,806, satellite internet decreased 2.1% to 653, and other internet services, including power line and Ethernet connections, fell 12% to 773.
