Jordan’s Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smairat, met with a Syrian delegation led by Minister of Communications and Technology Abdel Salam Haykal on July 29, 2025, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and the digital economy. The visit included a tour of Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), where the Syrian delegation was briefed on Jordan’s regulatory framework and experience in telecommunications and postal sectors.
Smairat emphasized the longstanding ties between the two countries and the commitment to expand collaboration across various sectors. He highlighted Jordan’s progress in telecom development and digital transformation, viewing the visit as an opportunity for knowledge exchange and exploring cooperation avenues.
Bassam Sarhan, Chairman of the TRC Board of Commissioners, affirmed Jordan’s readiness to support Syria in modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure aligned with global standards. Sarhan praised Syria’s efforts to foster telecom, IT, and postal cooperation and underscored TRC’s role in promoting competition, investment, and technological advancement to bolster economic growth and service quality.
The Syrian delegation also engaged with mobile network operators, fiber-optic providers, and a GSMA representative during meetings at the TRC headquarters. Discussions centered on investment opportunities in Syria’s telecommunications market and the importance of leveraging Syria’s evolving investment landscape to attract regional and international investors.
