AMEA Power announced its participation in the second phase of the Agadir desalination project, which will expand the facility’s capacity to 400,000 m³/day, making it one of Africa’s largest. The expansion will be powered by AMEA Power’s 150 MW Laayoune wind farm, marking the company’s first water desalination venture in North Africa.
The project is a joint venture with Spanish company Cox, combining water and renewable energy solutions. With a total investment exceeding €250 million, the desalination plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2026, and the wind farm by 2027.
AMEA Power’s Chairman Hussain Al Nowais emphasized the project’s role in addressing regional water and energy challenges through sustainable, integrated infrastructure.
