TikTok Removes Over 10 Million Videos in Iraq in Q1 2025 for Violations

TikTok removed more than 10 million videos in Iraq during Q1 2025 for violating community guidelines, with 99.5% of the content taken down proactively and 95.5% removed within 24 hours. The platform also banned over 346,000 live-stream hosts and shut down approximately 650,000 live streams in Iraq during this period.

Across Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, UAE, and Morocco, TikTok removed 16.5 million videos for guideline breaches. Globally, the platform shut down over 19 million violating live streams and banned nearly 850,000 hosts, marking a 50% increase from the previous quarter.

Iraq’s Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, announced plans to ban TikTok, citing concerns over its negative societal impact. However, digital media experts highlight the app’s importance for entrepreneurship and income generation among Iraqi youth.
