stc Group put its 4G and 5G networks through rigorous testing by connecting millions of users during the opening weeks of the Esports World Cup (EWC), an online gaming competition hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital. As an Elite and Founding partner of the EWC, stc committed to delivering seamless connectivity at all event venues.
The operator deployed more than 1,295 antennas to support 4G and 5G connectivity, including 576 installed inside key venues to ensure comprehensive coverage. To enhance network reliability and data speeds, stc employed indoor building solutions (IBS) designed to bolster coverage and provide stable internet connections with high data rates.
In addition, stc expanded 5G bandwidth to 285MHz in areas with the highest concentration of users. The mobile networks were also used to deliver connectivity for broadcasters providing live event coverage, ensuring smooth transmission for viewers worldwide.
Since the EWC began on 7 July and continues until 24 August, stc’s systems have connected more than 3 million users. The company highlighted that this network deployment underlines its commitment to positioning Saudi Arabia as a global esports hub and enhancing the country’s readiness to host the world’s largest technology and sports events.
Beyond network deployment, stc has partnered with the Saudi Esports Federation to provide its employees with opportunities to work on project-based assignments within the esports sector. This collaboration enables staff to develop relevant technical skills while benefiting from mentoring programs aligned with stc’s broader goal of establishing Saudi Arabia as a leading digital nation.
