Oman Launches Digital Platform for Road Damage Settlements After Traffic Accidents

Oman has introduced a new digital platform to streamline how motorists settle costs for road infrastructure damage caused by traffic accidents. The system, launched through Muscat Municipality and in coordination with the Royal Oman Police, allows vehicle owners to file reports, process claims, and make payments entirely online.

The process begins with a damage evaluation issued by the Royal Oman Police, detailing the extent of harm to public infrastructure such as streetlights, traffic signals, barriers, asphalt, and landscaping. Motorists then submit this assessment via the Muscat Municipality portal, where a specialized technical team reviews the case, inspects the damage, completes necessary repairs, and issues a detailed cost report. Once finalized, payment can be made digitally, and a clearance letter is provided to confirm settlement.

This new e-service simplifies what was once a lengthy, paper-heavy process. By digitizing claims and payments, it speeds up repairs, reduces administrative bottlenecks, and increases transparency for both motorists and local authorities. In 2024 alone, Oman recorded 338 incidents of vehicles colliding with fixed roadside objects, highlighting the need for a faster and more efficient settlement system.

The platform also strengthens municipal management by ensuring all claims are tracked electronically, enabling authorities to better coordinate repairs and monitor public assets. With reduced manual intervention, improved accountability, and faster response times, the system represents a significant step forward in Oman’s broader digital transformation efforts and enhances public service delivery for residents.
