IBA Group, a multinational software services provider, and Berexia Payment, a leading technology services company, have partnered with Al Barid Bank and Royal Air Maroc (RAM) to launch a SoftPOS solution in Morocco, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital payments ecosystem.
SoftPOS, short for Software Point of Sale, transforms any NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet into a secure payment terminal without requiring additional hardware. This innovation enables merchants to accept contactless card and mobile wallet payments simply through an app, offering convenience, security, and cost-efficiency.
Sami Metwali, Head of Products & Solutions at Berexia Payment, explained: “We integrated tapXphone SoftPOS solution to create a secure and flexible payment service that meets the needs of both travellers and airport staff.”
The move follows a July 2025 announcement by Royal Air Maroc and Al Barid Bank, who partnered to enhance the passenger experience by enabling secure contactless payments via tap-enabled terminals.
Al Amine Nejjar, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Al Barid Bank, said: “We are proud to put our expertise in digital payments at the service of this pioneering initiative with Royal Air Maroc.”
The initiative comes at a time when Morocco’s digital payments sector is experiencing rapid growth, driven by its youthful, tech-savvy population and booming e-commerce activity. By introducing SoftPOS, the partners aim to boost financial inclusion, streamline payment systems, and modernize the travel experience across Morocco.
