Islamabad – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to roll out free Wi-Fi across 35 major locations in the federal capital, covering markets, Metro and Electric Feeder Bus stations, and public parks. The initiative aims to provide residents and visitors with seamless, no-cost internet access at the city’s busiest points.
The decision was finalized in a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters. Under the plan, the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will operate and maintain the system, with CDA’s technical team providing full implementation support.
Randhawa highlighted the government’s vision for a “Digital Islamabad,” stressing that free Wi-Fi is a step toward making the capital Pakistan’s first free Wi-Fi city. He emphasized the importance of developing a sustainable operational and marketing model, where revenue generated from the service would be reinvested into upgrades and maintenance to ensure high-quality and uninterrupted connectivity.
“This project is about modernizing urban life and providing citizens with digital conveniences that match global standards,” Randhawa said, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to mobilize all necessary resources for success.
