Alibaba Expands Role in Pakistan’s Digital Economy with New Trade and Payment Solutions

Beijing, Aug 28 (APP)Alibaba Group is deepening its involvement in Pakistan’s digital economy, rolling out mobile payment tools, e-commerce enhancements, and trade facilitation services to empower local businesses and consumers.

Earlier this month, Alibaba introduced Trade Assurance 2.0 in Pakistan, a financial solution designed to help suppliers reduce costs and credit risks while securing higher-value export orders. This follows the May launch of Alibaba’s online logistics services, aimed at streamlining supply chains for Pakistani exporters, lowering expenses, and expanding access to international markets.

“Since 2015, we have worked with partners in 10 countries and regions, including Pakistan, to build local digital wallets,” said Liu Xuefei, Director of Public Affairs at Alibaba Group. “These platforms now cover essential services such as food, clothing, housing, and transport, delivering tangible benefits to both consumers and small businesses.”

Alibaba’s digital presence in Pakistan traces back to 2018, when then State Bank of Pakistan Governor Tariq Bajwa trialed QR code payments in Beijing. Later that year, Ant Group partnered with Easypaisa to launch a localized version of Alipay, embedding Chinese digital finance expertise into Pakistan’s financial ecosystem.

Currently, around 300,000 Pakistani products are listed on Alibaba’s platforms, with textiles ranking among the most sought-after categories globally. With Pakistan’s e-commerce sector continuing to grow, Alibaba plans to invest further in entrepreneur training and technical capacity building, enabling local businesses to strengthen their global footprint.
