Cairo — Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat met with India’s Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the ICT sector, with emphasis on offshoring, digital capacity building, artificial intelligence, and startup support.
The talks reviewed progress on initiatives under the existing MoU between Egypt and India, which spans e-government, IT industry development, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, capacity building, electronics design and manufacturing, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. Both sides highlighted Indian investments in Egypt in areas such as electronics manufacturing, digital transformation, and offshoring services.
Minister Talaat underscored the ICT sector’s role as a key contributor to Egypt’s economy, particularly in offshoring, where several Indian IT firms already operate successfully. He also pointed to joint achievements in digital skills training, including cooperation between Egypt’s Information Technology Institute (ITI) and Indian institutions, as part of MCIT’s broader initiatives to enhance digital capacity.
Ambassador Reddy praised Egypt for being chosen to host the inaugural AI Everything Middle East and Africa Summit in February 2026, coinciding with India’s own AI Impact Summit the same month. He described such events as important opportunities to deepen international cooperation in AI, expressing optimism about expanding India-Egypt ICT ties.
The meeting was also attended by Sherine El-Guindy, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation, and Samah Aziz, Director of the Central Department of International Relations at MCIT.
