Thunes, a global leader in cross-border payments, has introduced its real-time money transfer service in Morocco, strengthening the country’s position as one of Africa’s largest remittance markets. The service allows payouts directly in Moroccan Dirham (MAD), providing Thunes’ members with faster and more cost-effective access to Morocco’s growing digital economy.
According to the World Bank, Morocco received more than $11.5 billion in remittances in 2023, underscoring the demand for efficient transfer solutions. Thunes’ 2025 report Money without Borders highlighted that 65% of expatriates rank speed as the top factor when choosing a payment service. By integrating directly with Moroccan banks, Thunes ensures transfers from anywhere in the world are quicker, transparent, and more affordable.
Operating in over 130 countries and supporting 80 currencies with 320 payment methods, Thunes connects to seven billion mobile wallets and bank accounts globally. The launch is expected to significantly improve the remittance experience for Moroccans abroad while boosting financial inclusion and digital adoption within the country.
