Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday inaugurated PTV Digital, a new 24/7 digital news platform under the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), designed to deliver factual news content and counter misinformation about the country.
The launch ceremony, held at PTV headquarters, was attended by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Information Secretary Ambreen Jan, and senior officials. PM Sharif unveiled a commemorative plaque and toured the facility, where he engaged with staff—many of them young professionals—commending their dedication to public service broadcasting at a critical juncture in the global information landscape.
“The role of these professionals is vital in addressing narratives pushed from abroad that seek to distort Pakistan’s image,” said the Prime Minister, who also recorded the channel’s first-ever interview as part of its initial programming.
An English-Language Platform for Global Outreach
Minister Tarar briefed the Prime Minister, emphasizing that PTV Digital will serve as a credible English-language news platform to present Pakistan’s perspective on regional and international affairs.
According to the Ministry of Information, the channel’s mandate spans international relations, economic developments, and cultural affairs, all delivered through a Pakistani lens. Officials highlighted that PTV Digital is envisioned as a public diplomacy tool, bridging the information gap between Pakistan and global audiences.
Verified and Diverse Content
The platform will blend domestic reporting with contributions from a network of freelancers worldwide and collaborate with major international wire services such as Reuters and the Associated Press (AP) to ensure accurate, timely coverage.
By launching PTV Digital, Pakistan aims to establish a reliable digital presence, counter disinformation, and reinforce its narrative in the global media space.
