Kyrgyzstan Launches Pilot Project for Non-Geostationary Satellite Internet to Bridge Digital Divide

Bishkek — President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree authorizing a pilot project to deploy non-geostationary satellite systems in Kyrgyzstan, aimed at accelerating the nation’s digital transformation and addressing connectivity challenges, the presidential press service announced.

The initiative seeks to eliminate digital inequality across remote and mountainous regions, ensuring all citizens gain access to high-speed, reliable internet services. By integrating low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks, Kyrgyzstan aims to enhance broadband coverage, promote digital inclusion, and create conditions conducive to the adoption of innovative telecommunications technologies.

According to the decree, the pilot project will explore the use of next-generation satellite internet systems as part of a broader effort to modernize national infrastructure and support the country’s Digital Kyrgyzstan strategy. The program is expected to attract private-sector participation and pave the way for expanded digital services in education, healthcare, and e-governance.

Officials emphasized that the project underscores Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to leveraging advanced connectivity solutions to drive socioeconomic growth and bridge urban–rural disparities in digital access.
