Kuala Lumpur, October 7, 2025 — A high-level Amazon Web Services (AWS) delegation met with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan to discuss expanding digital investment and strengthening Pakistan’s startup and technology ecosystem. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Pakistan–Malaysia Business and Investment Conference, held during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Malaysia from October 5–7.
AWS Signals Strong Interest in Pakistan’s Digital Economy
During the discussions, AWS representatives expressed keen interest in supporting Pakistan’s entrepreneurial and fintech landscape, signaling a potential leadership visit to Pakistan to explore new partnerships and on-ground initiatives. The meeting focused on cloud infrastructure, IT innovation, and digital entrepreneurship, with both sides agreeing to advance cooperation that supports Pakistan’s growing tech sector.
Expanding Partnerships Beyond Technology
In parallel, Minister Jam Kamal Khan met with Malaysian business leaders exploring opportunities in technology, agriculture, and investment. The Malaysian Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) showed interest in collaborating on semiconductor software design, while GWG, an agricultural firm, proposed partnerships in seed technology and research to enhance crop productivity.
The Commerce Minister invited these Malaysian entities to visit Pakistan to build on these initial discussions and explore joint ventures aligned with Pakistan’s economic modernization agenda.
Fintech and Digital Innovation Collaborations
Further advancing Pakistan’s fintech growth, the Minister also met Mr. Tommy Yeah, Head of Regional Operations at Ant Group, the Alibaba affiliate with investments in Easypaisa. Mr. Yeah reaffirmed Ant Group’s commitment to expanding fintech investment in Pakistan, reflecting growing global confidence in the country’s digital finance ecosystem.
Strengthening Regional Digital Ties
The Minister also held bilateral talks with YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister for Digital, to discuss cooperation in e-commerce, cross-border digital services, AI, 5G, and cybersecurity. The meeting built upon the MoU between Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@sha) and Malaysia’s National Tech Association (PIKOM), aimed at deepening collaboration between the two countries’ IT sectors.
The two ministers also inaugurated the TechConnect Conference, featuring sessions by MDEC, Cyberview, MSIA, PIKOM, AWS, and Oracle, where participants explored joint digital innovation projects and capacity-building programs to drive regional digital transformation.
Officials noted that these engagements are expected to pave the way for new bilateral projects, knowledge exchange, and investment partnerships across technology and entrepreneurship, reinforcing Pakistan’s position as an emerging hub for digital innovation in South Asia.
