Singapore-based data centre operator Digital Edge has secured IDR 5.5 trillion (US$325 million) in funding from Bank Central Asia (BCA) to accelerate its expansion plans in Indonesia — one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing digital markets.
The corporate facility is being provided to Digital Edge’s Indonesia unit, which includes Indonet and its subsidiary Ekagrata Data Gemilang (EDGE DC). The new funding will be used to finance ongoing projects in the Jakarta metropolitan area, refinance an existing BCA facility, and complete the final phase of the EDGE2 data centre in South Jakarta.
“The facility will support our continued development of sustainable and market-leading digital infrastructure to the world’s fourth most populous country,” said Jonathan Walbridge, CFO of Digital Edge.
The EDGE2 facility, which went live in February 2024, is less than 3 km from EDGE1 and is now Jakarta’s largest data centre, boasting a 23 MW IT load capacity and 3,400+ racks. The site connects to over 50 network carriers and multiple Internet Exchanges, including Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX) and Edge Peering Internet Exchange (EPIX), and features four diverse entry points for enhanced interconnectivity and redundancy.
BCA Director of Corporate Banking Rudy Susanto said the investment underscores the bank’s confidence in Indonesia’s fast-growing digital economy:
“We see Indonesia’s digital economy growth as a significant opportunity that must be supported by strong technology infrastructure. Indonet and EDGE DC have the proven track record to meet these needs.”
