Global Tech Economy Expands: GITEX AI Serbia to Debut in 2027, Powering Southeast Europe’s Digital Future

Dubai — In a landmark move signaling Southeast Europe’s entry into the global innovation arena, GITEX Global, the world’s largest tech and AI event network, will debut GITEX AI Serbia in May 2027, marking its expansion into the region.

Organized by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and KAOUN International, in strategic partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, the event will be held at the Belgrade Fair from May 26–27, 2027. Serving as the official tech event of EXPO 2027 Belgrade, GITEX AI Serbia aims to position Southeast Europe as a regional innovation hub where local digital economies intersect with global technology, investment, and research ecosystems.

A Global Platform for Regional Transformation

Marko Čadež, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, called the launch a transformative milestone for the nation’s digital and economic development.

“Staging GITEX AI Serbia during EXPO 2027 marks an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our nation’s digital transformation journey on the world stage,” he said. “We aim to attract investors, highlight our education system’s strength, and position Serbia as a country brimming with technological potential.”

Trixie LohMirmand, Executive Vice President of DWTC and CEO of KAOUN International, emphasized the event’s global vision:

“GITEX AI Serbia embodies our mission to drive future-shaping innovation and forge cross-border collaboration in this decade of AI. Hosting GITEX alongside EXPO 2027 is a strategic masterstroke—uniting global tech leaders with Southeast Europe’s emerging economies to co-create a new world paradigm.”

Serbia’s Rapid Rise in ICT and AI

Serbia has become a digital transformation leader in Southeast Europe, propelled by a strong ICT sector that now contributes 10% of national GDP. The country achieved record ICT exports of $4.31 billion in 2024, a tenfold increase over 12 years, employing more than 110,000 professionals — a number projected to reach 140,000 by 2027.

The Serbian government is also investing $82.1 million in AI development through 2027, supporting initiatives across agritech, sustainability, and the circular economy. Serbia is home to Southeast Europe’s first AI Research Institute, solidifying its position as a regional benchmark for innovation and R&D.

Innovation Meets Humanity

Aligned with EXPO 2027 Belgrade’s theme — “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All” — the event will blend technology with creativity and cultural connection. The fusion of AI, innovation, and human expression underscores Serbia’s commitment to shaping a digital economy rooted in inclusivity and collaboration.

Looking Ahead

With GITEX AI Serbia, Southeast Europe is set to join the world’s most dynamic tech ecosystems. The event will unlock opportunities for foreign investment, AI talent development, and cross-border partnerships, while reinforcing Dubai’s leadership in exporting its successful GITEX model worldwide.
