AWS and e& Launch ‘AI Nation – Afaaq’ to Train 30,000 UAE Professionals in AI and Cloud Technologies

Dubai — In a landmark move to accelerate the UAE’s digital transformation, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and e& have launched the nationwide “AI Nation – Afaaq” programme to train 30,000 individuals in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing. The initiative was unveiled at GITEX Global 2025 in Dubai and forms part of the $1 billion strategic alliance between e& and AWS announced in 2024.

Delivered through the e& Academy, the programme aims to build a future-ready workforce by equipping participants with globally recognized certifications. AWS will provide 30,000 sponsored vouchers — including 25,000 for the AWS Certified AI Practitioner and 5,000 for the AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer – Associate certifications. Participants will also gain access to AWS Skill Builder, a comprehensive online learning platform, alongside live interactive “Cloud Coach” sessions to prepare for certification exams.

Harrison Lung, Group Chief Strategy Officer at e&, said:

“This collaboration with AWS reflects our joint commitment to developing the next generation of UAE talent. By combining AWS’s global training excellence with our local expertise, we’re ensuring learners across the country can thrive in an AI-driven economy.”

Madhavi Reddy, Managing Director for AWS in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, added:

“Our partnership with e& Academy enables us to make world-class digital training accessible nationwide. Together, we’re helping build the skilled workforce required to sustain the UAE’s digital transformation.”

The initiative directly supports the UAE Centennial 2071 vision of creating a diversified, knowledge-based economy. It also addresses the regional AI talent gap highlighted in IDC’s 2024 report, which found that 46% of UAE organisations cite a shortage of AI expertise as a key barrier to adoption.

By training 30,000 professionals in cloud and AI, AWS and e& aim to strengthen the UAE’s position as a global technology hub, empowering citizens and businesses to innovate and compete in the digital economy.
