Algeria to Launch Africa’s Largest Tech R&D Center to Drive AI and Innovation

Algeria is preparing to open Africa’s largest research and development (R&D) center, a landmark project aimed at accelerating technological innovation and advancing the continent’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. The announcement was made by Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, during a press conference in Algiers.

The new R&D hub will serve as a national innovation powerhouse, supporting young researchers, start-ups, and entrepreneurs while fostering collaboration with global technology leaders. The initiative is jointly supported by Algeria Venture and the ministries of Digital Economy and Trade, reflecting a whole-of-government commitment to developing the country’s knowledge economy.

Minister Zerrouki emphasized that the center will play a pivotal role in strengthening Algeria’s digital infrastructure, nurturing local talent, and positioning the country as a regional hub for AI-driven research, advanced computing, and emerging technologies.

Once operational, the facility is expected to become a cornerstone of Africa’s technological future — driving research partnerships, enabling innovation-led entrepreneurship, and contributing significantly to national economic growth and digital transformation.
