Mobily, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) companies, has signed a landmark agreement with Power Sub Link (PSL), a global leader in subsea installation and marine engineering. The partnership will see PSL take on the complete execution of the Mobily Red Sea Cable (MRSC) System, a strategic infrastructure project connecting Saudi Arabia and Egypt through the Red Sea.
Under the agreement, Power Sub Link will oversee the end-to-end design, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning of the MRSC system. This marks Mobily’s first fully owned submarine cable, a milestone that strengthens its position as a regional and global telecommunications powerhouse.
Expanding Regional and Global Connectivity
Stretching between Duba, Saudi Arabia, and Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the MRSC system will form a new digital corridor across the Red Sea, enhancing data capacity, reliability, and international reach. The cable will integrate into Mobily’s existing terrestrial and subsea network, linking the Arabian Gulf and neighboring countries to Egypt and connecting with multiple global subsea systems.
The MRSC project will also enable new routes for data traffic between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, addressing the rising demand for resilient, high-capacity connectivity in both domestic and international markets.
Strategic Vision Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030
Thamer Alfadda, Senior Vice President of Wholesale & Carrier Services at Mobily, emphasized the project’s alignment with Saudi Arabia’s national digital transformation goals:
“The Mobily Red Sea Cable is a strategic milestone for both Mobily and the Kingdom, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s role as a central hub for global digital connectivity. This fully owned subsea system enhances our capacity, reliability, and flexibility in connecting the Middle East to Europe, while creating new opportunities for regional collaboration and growth.”
He added that the system supports Saudi Vision 2030 by laying the groundwork for technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence, both of which require robust, low-latency infrastructure.
Power Sub Link’s Global Expertise
Eng. Byron Skaftouros, Managing Director of Power Sub Link SA, described the project as a “significant milestone for Mobily and the wider region,” reaffirming PSL’s capability to deliver complex subsea infrastructure with precision and reliability.
“Through our integrated capabilities in subsea design, engineering, and installation, we are committed to ensuring the successful delivery of a world-class system that will contribute to Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation and its growing role in global connectivity.”
By awarding this turnkey project to PSL, Mobily has reaffirmed its confidence in the company’s ability to execute high-standard, large-scale infrastructure projects that comply with international safety and technical benchmarks.
Reinforcing Regional Leadership
The MRSC project represents a major advancement in Saudi Arabia’s digital infrastructure, strengthening its role as a global data transit hub linking three continents. For Power Sub Link, the collaboration marks an expansion of its Middle Eastern presence and reinforces its reputation as a trusted partner for critical subsea connectivity projects shaping the future of global telecommunications.
