Meta Launches Urdu Version of Meta AI in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – October 27, 2025: Meta, the global tech company behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has launched the Urdu version of Meta AI for users in Pakistan — a major milestone toward making artificial intelligence tools more inclusive and accessible to local communities.

The launch took place at the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). According to Meta, this initiative supports Pakistan’s digital transformation by bringing AI capabilities to the country’s most widely spoken language.

Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima hailed the development as a key achievement under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, emphasizing that localized AI access marks a significant step toward digital inclusion.

“Pakistan is moving toward a future where technology empowers every citizen,” said Minister Fatima. “Our partnership with Meta reflects our shared commitment to AI education, innovation, and inclusivity. The addition of Urdu in Meta AI ensures that no one is left behind in this digital revolution.”

Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s public sector and academia.

“We aim to help educational and government institutions drive digital transformation through effective AI adoption,” he said. “Meta AI in Urdu will allow local communities to engage with technology in their own language, making digital progress more inclusive.”

At the event, Meta also launched a localized guide titled “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama”, developed in partnership with Deloitte and supported by MoITT. The publication demonstrates how Meta’s open-source Llama AI model can enhance governance, service delivery, and data sovereignty, featuring successful implementations from across the Asia-Pacific region, including Pakistan.

Furthering its education initiatives, Meta announced an AI Literacy Program in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. The program will train 350 university instructors from non-computer science disciplines in basic AI skills, preparing students for the future digital economy.

Additionally, Meta introduced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program, designed to connect Pakistan’s public institutions with Meta’s latest technologies and global best practices, fostering public-private collaboration in digital transformation.

This launch reinforces Meta’s commitment to enabling AI accessibility in local languages, positioning Pakistan as a rising participant in the global digital ecosystem and advancing the nation’s journey toward a smart, inclusive, and innovation-driven economy.
