Salalah, October 28, 2025 (ONA) — The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Salalah hosted a Cybersecurity Awareness Forum aimed at strengthening public understanding of cybersecurity and equipping participants with essential digital protection skills.
The event brought together students, professionals, and experts to discuss the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s interconnected world.
Dr. Lamya Said Al Shanfari, Head of Information Technology at UTAS Salalah, emphasized that the digital economy’s dependence on data flow has made cybersecurity a cornerstone of business growth and innovation. “The development of technology in the digital world is one of the most important accelerators of business growth. Today, the world depends on information flow, leading to the rise of specialized fields in information and communication technologies,” she said.
She further noted that cybersecurity — as a field — plays a vital role in data exchange, storage, and processing systems, and has become an area of increasing interest for individuals, organizations, and governments.
The forum featured lectures, expert sessions, and workshops focused on cyber protection and threat detection. Highlights included a “Digital Home Shield” workshop, a theatrical presentation titled “Point Zero”, and an exhibition of student projects showcasing innovations in cybersecurity and data protection systems.
By fostering dialogue and hands-on learning, the UTAS Cybersecurity Forum reinforces Oman’s commitment to building cyber resilience and promoting a culture of digital safety among youth and the wider community.
