Algeria and the International Energy Forum Strengthen Cooperation for Global Market Stability

Algeria has reinforced its ties with the International Energy Forum (IEF) as Minister of State for Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held a high-level meeting with IEF Secretary-General Jassim Alshirawi on the sidelines of the UNIDO General Conference in Riyadh. The session, attended by senior officials and Algeria’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, focused on stabilizing global energy markets amid heightened volatility and rapid transformation in the oil and gas sector.

Arkab emphasized Algeria’s key role within the IEF—representing over 90% of global oil production—and called for deeper collaboration on market stability, long-term investment, technology integration, and skills development to support a balanced energy transition. Discussions also revisited Algeria’s instrumental contribution to the 2016 Algiers Accord, which laid the foundation for cooperation between OPEC and non-OPEC states.

Alshirawi welcomed Algeria’s leadership and stressed the need for sustained investment in hydrocarbons alongside renewables and cleaner technologies to meet rising global demand. Arkab invited the Secretary-General to visit Algeria to further expand joint initiatives, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhanced cooperation and global energy security.
