Mindanao is deepening its partnership with Qatar Ministry of Communications and Information Technology as both sides advance discussions on digital innovation, tech-talent development and ICT investments — a collaboration expected to boost the island’s digital transformation and unlock new opportunities for communities.
During the Mindanao Investment Mission to Qatar, Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Tereso Magno met with Qatar’s MCIT to highlight Mindanao’s readiness to build a stronger innovation ecosystem. The talks aligned with Qatar’s move toward a knowledge-based economy and the Philippines’ nationwide modernization of digital services and AI-enabled skills development.
“These synergies are essential to building a better Mindanao — one that is digitally empowered and more competitive,” Magno said.
What the partnership could bring to Mindanao
Both parties signaled strong interest in cooperation across ICT investments, tech transfer, research, and startup-driven innovation. Potential benefits for Mindanao communities include:
- Expanded digital and AI upskilling programs
- Stronger support systems for local startups
- New innovation centers and regional ICT hubs
- Smarter digital tools for LGUs and local industries
Qatar — known for advanced capabilities in AI, cybersecurity, and smart-city systems — expressed readiness to work with Mindanao institutions, LGUs, and sectors to co-develop solutions in agriculture tech, digital governance, smart cities, and cybersecurity.
Magno stressed that this partnership directly supports President Marcos Jr.’s priority to strengthen the Philippines’ digital workforce and prepare Filipinos — especially Mindanao youth — for an AI-ready future.
As Mindanao positions itself within the global digital economy, the MinDA–Qatar collaboration represents not just investment momentum but a pathway to inclusive technology access, community upliftment and future-ready jobs across the island.
