Nepal’s 4G Users Reach 2.59 Crore as Mobile Broadband Penetration Hits 89%

Nepal’s 4G user base has surged to 2.59 crore, according to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority’s latest MIS report for Ashoj 2082. The figure reflects an addition of over 1.11 lakh new 4G subscribers within a month, underscoring the continued dominance of 4G as the country awaits its first commercial 5G rollout. Mobile broadband penetration has now reached 89.07%, driven primarily by Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell’s expanding nationwide GSM networks.

NTC leads with 1.42 crore 4G users—gaining 82,960 new customers—while Ncell serves 1.16 crore subscribers, adding 28,488 within the same period. Both operators offer carrier aggregation technology, improving speed, coverage, and latency for mobile broadband users.

Even as 98% of local levels now enjoy 4G, service quality remains an area for improvement, with NTA’s drive tests showing variable performance across regions. Nepal Telecom has announced plans to phase out 2G on 1800 MHz, while Ncell will sunset its 3G network by 2025, paving the way for a 4G-and-above future as the country inches closer to launching 5G.
