Algeria has reviewed key national strategies for digital and infrastructure modernisation during a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb in Algiers. The session focused on several high-priority dossiers central to the country’s economic transformation and long-term development agenda.
At the top of the agenda was Algeria’s national e-commerce development strategy, presented as a cornerstone of the country’s digital transition. The government emphasized that institutionalising e-commerce is essential for strengthening competitiveness, encouraging innovation, formalising commercial activity, and expanding financial inclusion. The strategy is aligned with Algeria’s broader ambition to embed digital technologies across its economic policy.
The meeting also evaluated progress on non-geostationary satellite telecommunications services, a new technological system designed to extend high-speed internet to rural and remote regions. By complementing existing infrastructure, the satellite programme aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to modern communications tools.
Officials further reviewed several major infrastructure projects, including:
- The national railway development programme, aimed at modernising and expanding the transport network
- The construction of a major sports complex in Constantine, supporting youth engagement and local development
- The Boukhroufa Dam in El Tarf, a key project for water resource management
- The Ighil Amda–Mahouane water transfer project connecting Béjaïa and Sétif, intended to enhance water security for local communities
The government reaffirmed its commitment to driving socio-economic transformation by combining digital progress with infrastructure modernisation across strategic sectors.
